Family Orientation

Soon, your student will be packing and preparing for their move to Cambridge, MA this fall. First-year students who have applied and been accepted to participate in the First-Year Outdoor Program (FOP) are invited to move into their term time housing on August 22 during an assigned time. First-year students who have applied and been accepted to participate in the First-Year Arts Program (FAP), First-Year International Program (FIP), First-Year Urban Program (FUP), First-Year Retreat and Experience (FYRE) Program, or Leadership Institute for the First-Year Experience (LIFE) are invited to move into their term time housing on August 24 during an assigned time. First-year students who are not participating in a pre-orientation program will move into their term time housing on August 30 during an assigned time. As you plan for the upcoming semester, please know that supporting your entire family's transition to Harvard College is important to us.

Our Family Orientation program will take place in two ways. First, we will host three virtual sessions in July/ early August for families to learn more about what to expect during the move-in process, ask questions about academics and the first-year experience, and hear from various campus partners who are invested in your student's success.

In addition, coinciding with the First-Year Move-In Days on August 22, 24 and 30, we will host the following on-campus programming:

Move-In

8 am - 4 pm; First-Year Dorms

Take time to unpack, organize, and meet your student's roommates, student leaders, and staff from across the College.  

Note: Keys and move-in packets will be available at the welcome tents in Harvard Yard or outside 6 Prescott St. Mail and package pick-up in the Science Center.

Family Lounge

10 am - 2 pm; Cambridge Queen's Head Pub

Take a break from unpacking by joining other first-year families for conversation and complimentary light snacks and beverages. Current students and administrators will be available there to welcome you and answer questions!

Historical Tours

1 pm - 2 pm &  2:30 - 3:30 pm; Departing from John Harvard Statue 

Join us for an hour-long tour highlighting the history of Harvard, from its inception in 1636 to the present. Please wear comfortable walking shoes.

Family Farewells

5 pm

Families should plan to say goodbye prior to 5 pm to allow students to attend dinner and mandatory evening meetings.

Dining in Annenberg During Move-In 

Parents and family members of the Class of 2027 are invited to eat in Annenberg for lunch or dinner during one of the three designated move-in days on August 22, 24 or 30. In order to secure your mealtime, please use the Harvard University Marketplace link to purchase your meal tickets.
